Geologists and mineralogists are in theory the specialists in identifying and exploiting mineral resources in an efficient and environmentally soud way. However, most geologists don't realizs that mines don't extract resources, economies do. Knowledge of basic economic principles is as much a requirement for geologists as is knowledge of minerals and their occurrence.
